These 1510 sections emphasize material research and writing methods, including bibliographic, field, and empirical techniques. Students study draft and published material by prominent science writers and employ a combination of scientific and humanities research and writing approaches, with the goal of creating original research projects that prioritize substance and aim for elegance.

Upcoming (Optional) Review Meetings

What SHOULD have been in Monday’s class :-D:

Part I: Prepare for your Final Exams!

Be sure to have your presentations prepared in advance and to come to your exam period!

*If you’re having trouble finding the final exam schedule for your other classes, you can find it here: https://registrar.virginia.edu/exam-schedules/exam-schedule-spring-2023

Part II: Please Complete Course Evaluations and Work Release Preference Form:

  1. University Course Evaluation
*Note: These are also available through your Collab account (for all of your current courses).

  2. Departmental Course Evaluation

  3. Permission (or not) for Me to Reproduce Your Student Work

For Monday, 5/1:

  • DO come to class; we have final paperwork to complete, and final exam slots to sign up for!

  • Do your best to have your citations in shape before class—both throughout your papers and in your Works Cited pages.
*As long as you have your citations in order in your Unit 3 paper, I’m happy to credit those back to your Unit 2 papers—the point is to make sure you know how to do them in future papers.
If it’s easier for you to keep track of things, feel free to make the changes in both papers, and feel free to text me to make sure your Unit 2 grades reflect your revisions.

  • Remember that your Unit 3 papers are due before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 5/2. They should include your cover memo, as well (see the original assignment sheet); I’ll remind you of the cover memos in Monday’s class. But whenever you’re ready to submit your final projects, you can submit them to this folder.

In-Class on Friday, 4/28:

  • Review/make the corrections on your Unit 2 essays—for regrades, but also to make sure you know how to format your citations in your Unit 3 projects.
*Note: If you are reading this before class, I’m still marking up some of the essays—in theory, all essays will be marked up by class time; I’m posting grades in Collab as I finish each essay.
