Graduate Instructor Seminar
on the Teaching of Writing

This Seminar explores best practices in incorporating writing into disciplinary teaching, and gave faculty and participants alike the opportunity to discuss how writing works across disciplines.

January 2021

The fourth Seminar took place in January 2022, led by Professors Heidi Nobles and Anastatia Curley.

The 4-day program included 19 graduate student participants, 4 graduate assistants, and 12 different disciplines: Anthropology; Architecture; Art; Biology; Chemistry; English; Environmental Science; History; Music; Philosophy; Politics; and Religious Studies.

Summer 2021

The third Seminar took place in August 2021, led by Professors Patricia Sullivan, Heidi Nobles, and Anastatia Curley.

The 4-day program included 17 graduate student participants, 3 graduate assistants, and 10 different disciplines: Anthropology; Architecture; Classics; Computer Science; English; History; Music; Psychology; Religious Studies; and Spanish, Italian, & Portuguese.

Summer 2020

UVA launched the first Graduate Instructor Seminar on the Teaching of Writing, an extension of the Faculty Seminar to support the development of graduate students teaching across Grounds.

The leading faculty were Professors Tamika Carey, Patricia Sullivan, and Heidi Nobles.

The 4-day summer program worked with 21 graduate students from 12 different disciplines: Anthropology, Art, Education, English, Environmental Science, French, History, Music, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, and Religious Studies.
